KBBMF 2013 Honours Orchestra
To mark the 30th anniversary celebrations of the KBB Music Festival, the committee has decided to give student participants the chance to play in the 2013 KBB Music Festival Honours Orchestra. This group of musicians will come together after the last adjudicated session of the festival - before any announcements regarding the Gala Concerts have been made - on Friday August 23rd from 4.30pm until 7:00pm. They will rehearse and perform “Jupiter” from Holst’s suite The Planets. This is one of the largest works in the standard repertoire, and will be in the full original version. Scored for an enormous orchestra which (among other things) requires 2 timpanists, 6 horns, 4 clarinets, 2 tubas and a vast string section, this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the players who participate. All participating music departments are invited to encourage players of grade 6 standard or higher on any Orchestral or Concert Band instrument to apply to take part. In order to achieve the full scale of the original we have arranged for additional parts to be scored for Alto, Tenor & Baritone Saxophone and Euphonium players. A full list of required instruments is available on the online enrolment form. This event was conceived as a way for young performers from different schools at the festival to come together collegially. If there are players in your department who would benefit from this kind of opportunity and if you would like to see your school represented in the group, please encourage your students to apply. In the event that there are too many applicants for one particular type of instrument, the festival committee reserves the right to limit places. There is no charge to schools or students for involvement in the Honours Orchestra. The group will undertake an intensive rehearsal of the work, followed by a free performance for parents, teachers and public at 7:00pm. In order for students to fully represent their schools, we would appreciate them attending the Honours Orchestra wearing school uniform.Successful applicants for the Honours Orchestra will be notified by the beginning of the festival week. PDF copies of parts will be available on the KBB Music Festival website. The online enrolment form can be found on the KBB Music Festival Facebook Page, or, the KBB Music Festival Website, or by clicking on the link below:
ENROL HERE FOR THE 2013 KBB MUSIC FESTIVAL HONOURS ORCHESTRA
No single group performing in the KBB festival has the capacity to adequately perform Jupiter in the spectacular manner in which it was written. This type of experience can only be achieved by many musicians from many different schools truly working together so please promote this opportunity within your music department and encourage your students to applyOn behalf of the festival committee I invite all applications. Enrolments close on Friday 16th August.Kind Regards,Warwick RobinsonAdministrator KBBMFAdministrator KBBMF
